EURAXESS China - Funding Guide 2015

EURAXESS China published a funding guide in May 2015. It includes over 100 pages of funding opportunities relevant to researchers in the Sino-European research space, caregorized by countries. Even when outdated, the funding guide can serve as a useful overview ove the various funding opportunities available out there, majority of which have an annual call. Funding guide has been replaced by the EURAXESS funding database.

Horizon 2020, the EU's current framework programme for research and innovation runs from 2014 to 2020 with a budget of nearly EUR 80 billion. Horizon 2020 is fully open to international cooperation. The biggest EU research and innovation programme ever, Horizon 2020 is based on 3 pillars: Excellent Science, Industrial Leadership and Societal Challenges.

European Research Council: Excellence Opened to the World

The European Research Council (ERC) is a flagship component of Horizon 2020’s Excellent Science. ERC is a top funding body providing funding for excellent researchers of any nationality, to carry out frontier research in Europe, via annual calls. The ERC's mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence.




Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions

Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) under Horizon 2020’s Excellent Science pillar provide grants for all stages of researchers' careers and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. The MSCA enable research-focused organisations (universities, research centres, and companies) to host talented foreign researchers and to create strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide. The MSCA are open to all domains of research and innovation.





Erasmus +

Erasmus+ has opportunities for a wide range of organisations, including universities, education and training providers, think-tanks, research organisations, and private businesses.

China is a partner country in Erasmus+. Chinese institutions can join partnerships and be part of Credit Mobility agreements, individual Japanese students can apply for Joint Master Degrees. Chinese researchers can also individually apply for Jean Monnet Actions that foster study of European integration.

In forty years, EU and China cooperation has matured from pure scientific collaboration to a meaningful research and innovation partnership. ThinkINChina is a community and channel of communication between the Chinese and the foreign community of researchers and students.It brings monthly lectures on contemporary China issues and other events (e.g. the Researchers' Nights co-organised with EURAXESS Links China).The ThinkIn China acronym ‘TIC’ identifies the central elements of the platform:

  • 'Talks' - the core of the ThinkIn China events
  • 'Ideas' - a fruitful exchange of ideas that animates the ThinkIn China community
  • 'Community' - the virtual agora of researchers and students that inspires our thinking

Understanding Science team

Based in Beijing, the Understanding Science team brings monthly lecture series on wide range of topics related to natural sciences. The purpose of the seminars entitled "Understanding Science, Scientific seminars for the general public" is to make a broader public aware of today's accomplishments in research through short scientific lectures in English (popularization) as well as to have an opportunity to talk with international scientists currently carrying out research in China as well as with Chinese researchers, in a friendly environment provided by a bar or a cafe.

we Love Science - Popular Science Shanghai

We Love Science is Shanghai city government's popular science outreach program.


The program runs a wechat service (see QR code below) and organises various events aimed at popularising science in Shanghai. It's affiliated with Shanghai's Huxing Science and Technology Museum.

We Love Science is an official partner of EURAXESS China.


The Association of Italian Scholars in Eastern China

AAIIC is a non-profit organization of Italian professors, lecturers, scholars and researchers working in Universities of Eastern China, with the aim of fostering the academic, scientific and technological cooperation between Italy and China.


AAIIC is an official partner of EURAXESS China.




Dragon-STAR is a project funded by the European Commission under FP7. 

Taking into account the global significance of China's rapidly increasing role in the global research environment, Dragon-STAR supports the Sino-European collaboration in 4 levels:

STTC is mandated to:

  • Enhancing the quality of the Chinese participation in the European Research Framework Programs and especially reinforcing the participation from less economically developed areas.
  • Supporting the reciprocity originating from the signed EU-China Scientific Cooperation Agreement and the other bilateral initiatives.
  • Supporting the bilateral cooperation in the broader field of innovation and especially technological cooperation between industrial players.
  • Supporting the ongoing bilateral Scientific Cooperation dialogue and the other related initiatives.

Dragon-STAR will build upon the previous experience gained from the BILAT-SILK (Bilat project with China) as well as from the work done in the ChinaAccess4EU, ensuring thus the continuity of the two successful projects, and the further usage of the previous work already undertaken.

European University Centre at Peking University

The European University Centre at Peking University is a Centre for cooperation in education and research between a number of high profile European universities and Peking University.

The aim of the Centre is to establish joint research projects within various disciplines and faculties, to arrange conferences, seminars and workshops on topics of common interest, and to develop cooperation between Peking University and other universities and research institutions in China (like CAS and CASS) and the European universities.
